That was the quote from the team from
Popular Hot Rodding magazine after Pioneer Classic Autos
completed the restoration on the 1957 Project X.
After 29 years
Popular Hot Rodding decided that their
famous 1957 Chevrolet needed to hit the road on a country wide tour. So
they wanted to freshen it up.
They
asked Pioneer Classic Autos, because of their experience (over 5000
projects) and reputation for doing first class work, if they were up to
the task. Bob Flak told them to bring it on. Bob's so confident in
his crew and their ability to pull of restorations he states " if
you give us a bolt to start with, we can build a complete car around
it"!
The
major change was in the chassis. Which in all the years had never been
redone and the undercarriage appeared to be ready to fall apart if it
hit a good pothole. And well it should after all the drag strips this
car had flown down, the 5 or 6 rear end changes and the 5 complete rear
sub suspension swaps. So, Bob located a prime 4 door frame, and after
sandblasting, and 8 hours of removing any imperfections with disc
grinders and files, it was shot with four coats of Satin Black giving it
a factory fresh appearance.
Among
some of the changes, Fatman Fabrications Upper and Lower tubular control
arms, Williams Classic Craft 2 inch drop spindles. On the rear a Curry
Enterprises complete Ford 9 inch housing, custom built for the '57's new
frame. Because it was going to tour the country, it was set up with a
3.25 Strange Ring and Pinion. This was then all suspended with Danchuck
'55, '56-'57 5 leaf rear spring set.
When completed
Popular Hot Rodding
learned that performing a f rame
off restoration is not a job to be taken lightly but "we couldn't
have selected a better group than Phoenix based Pioneer
Classic Autos" to have completed this restoration of this classic machine.

Here is the
finished product ready to head out on tour.
